It's an amazing thing...Love. It causes some of the most difficult & wonderful feelings a human being can experience. I didn't realize how powerful love was...until I experienced 2 things. One, was meeting & truly falling in love with Gonga, my husband. Trust me, to fully accept someone, with all their faults, quirks, difficulties, is something. And it's a lot harder when that someone is me. The fact that Gonga not only agreed to be with me, but to be legally bound to me was an amazing thing. I will be indebted to him for my whole life for accepting me for who I am.
The second experience, and far more powerful (sorry, Gonga) was my son, Desmond. There truly is NO greater love than the love for your own child. Humbling is a word that doesn't describe it. You know of that ache you have for your child if you are a mom or a dad.
This, 2 paragraphs deep, is where I get to my point. If Gonga was green, scaly, or a woman, I'd still love him the same. If Desmond was purple, furry or GAY, I would still love him the same. Who cares what you get a boner for? Rex Ryan REALLY likes feet. Does that make him a bad coach? OK, bad example. LOVE is literally the most powerful thing you will ever experience in your life. The love of a person, a pet, a child...whatever. People that oppose gay marriage need to love MORE. If we just got rid of some hate, the fighting, the wasted energy and put it toward loving others, growing compassion & acceptance, this world, this country that is just beyond disastrous right now, might start becoming a better place.
And if you don't believe me, listen to the children. This is what Justice Anthony Kennedy is quoted as saying today:
“There is an immediate legal injury or legal—what could be a legal injury, and that’s the voice of these children. There are some 40,000 children in California . . . that live with same-sex parents. They want their parents to have full recognition and full status. The voice of these children is important, don’t you think?”
