SHOPPING DAZE
Cyber Monday is another silly shopping day created by marketing people to encourage people to shop online on a special day. Most of the things they buy online however won't be on sale so Cyber Monday isn't really any different from any other Monday during the holiday season except that we gave it a name and because of that, online sites expect to take in a billion dollars because it's Cyber Monday.
I'm amazed at how many people fall for these holiday promotions. There's an infective mob mentality that fires up endorphins in certain people the more the mob responds to the event. Even online. By going online on Cyber Monday many shoppers will feel they're backed up by more savvy shoppers and the internet soon becomes an electronic mob scene. The online shopper feels empowered and what the hell, it's only a credit card and they could be dead by the end of the week so why not buy?
The last place I want to be on Black Friday is at a busy mall. All those people in winter clothes with bags of merchandise crowded together in narrow aisles piled high with even more inventory seems like the kind of place I wake up from after a bad dream.
Black Friday is famous for fights breaking out among shoppers. A YouTube video has two guys going at it inside a store. The fight lasts fifteen minutes before it's broken up. They're fighting over merchandise made in Bangladesh.
According to number crunchers, this Black Friday goes into the history books as the best one ever. In fact, economists say Black Friday is now evolving into Black Weekend where sales incentives are extended through Cyber Monday.
There are two kinds of people. Those who like to hustle for holiday bargains and those who wait until the last minute to grab whatever they can before they stumble across the finish line and into the living room on Christmas Eve.
There needs to be a special shopping day for last minute shoppers when limited inventory is bolstered by exclusive offers not available on any other day. That way, even slackers can feel good about putting everything off to the last minute.
