SLEEPING IT OFF
What do I think about the
election?
I don't know who will win. Apparently Ohio is the king maker.
Whoever wins Ohio wins the White House and all the perks that come with it. I
don't know why Ohio is such a big player in this game. As a state it's noisy,
crowded, and unpleasant. It's a major artery for tractor trailer traffic. There
are more trucks moving through Ohio than there are cars.
Republicans
have unashamedly tried to block people from voting with voter I.D. laws. How
effective this tactic is will be revealed at the end of election night or
perhaps the following day.
We'll be bombarded with exit polls and early
results. Every network on Earth wants to be the first to pick the winner. I
suppose I would too if I were a network.Sort of like winning a jackpot in Vegas.
Personally, I'm going to bombard my body with early bedtime medications
so I can avoid the madness of the media. No matter how late I stay up it's not
going to change the outcome. Those whose candidate didn't win will be on suicide
watch. The victor will gather the spoils. We can only hope that as a nation we
did the right thing because if we didn't we face a very long and treacherous
four years. Gratefully the whole thing will be over and people can begin moving
pieces into position on their personal chessboards.
The country has been
in second gear for the last year and a half and now it's time to shift into
third. Once business knows who's going to run the government they can begin to
make plans either to spend more money hiring or save more money by firing.
Then there's the super storm. What impact will the devastation from the
hurricane have on voter turnout? Theres still power outages and some people
don't have anywhere to go. Cars are still lined up for hours in New Jersey
trying to gas up and just now people are beginning to sort through the wreckage
of once used to be their homes.
All these factors indicate a very
unpredictable election outcome. The latest job numbers were okay and that could
boost Obamas chances for re-election. It all comes down to the independent voter
and their ability to get off the fence and make up their minds. The mood of the
country on Tuesday morning as well as the weather will have a lot to do with who
wins. I'm going to bed early. You can stay up and ride the waves made by pundits
and predictions. I'll be glad when the whole thing is over and we can move on.
But where we go from there is anyones guess. Can the winner really govern and
pull us out of this mess or will we remain bitterly divided? We'll find out
after all the votes are counted. It could be a long night. I'll be prepared.
I'll be asleep.
