Fart Forces Passengers off American Airlines Plane

If thin news reports can be believed, American Airlines passengers had to flee a plane earlier today due to a fart. The flight in question had traveled from Charlotte to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. According to CBS North Carolina, “passengers on the flight became ill with nausea and headaches. The flight, which was not identified by RDU officials, landed at the airport around 4 p.m. when the incident was reported.” That is one very powerful fart. I’ve smelled some bad ones, but not many that have made me feel like I had to evacuate a particular area.

An official told CBS North Carolina that “all the passengers were taken off the plane and after the incident was investigated it was determined that a passenger “passed gas’.” There are no details on whether or not the oxygen masks deployed.

Based on American Airlines’ statement & Flightaware, it looks like the flight in question was AA1927 from Charlotte to Raleigh-Durham.

American Airlines is denying that one of their planes was evacuated due to a fart. They said there was an odor in the cabin, but that it wasn’t a fart. From WNCN: Ross Feinstein, a spokesman for the airline, released a statement that said in part:

“We did have an aircraft from Charlotte to RDU this afternoon, that landed at 2:19 p.m. ET, and arrived the gate at 2:21 p.m. ET, that is currently out of service for an actual mechanical issue – and odor in the cabin. But It is not due to “passed gas” as mentioned.”
